H2O (Be humble, honest and observant)
The most important attributes of a musician are honesty, humility and being observant ("H2O"), without which one is bound to miss out on what life has to offer.
Being humble and being honest to oneself requires the courage to be open to criticism, even if it’s by oneself. Only by being honest during one's practice and digging deep into the roots of one's technical or musical problems, could these problems be uprooted and resolved. It is only through this willingness to be humble and honest that the student can learn and progress.
Being observant allows one to notice the subtleties in music, thereby facilitating the refining of one's skills through heightened senses and analysis, if one is so keen.
I hope to help my students gain confidence through their violin learning, and also to become independent learners and teachers of their own. I hope to instill in my students continuous curiosity for learning, the courage to challenge oneself to scale greater heights, and most of all, to develop a love for music and life.
